OpenVMS boots on Integrity system

Major milestone reached with OpenVMS up and running on Itanium®-based system

HP has announced that, following a successful boot on January 31, 2003, at 3:31 p.m. EST, its OpenVMS operating system is now running on the Intel® Itanium® architecture. This accomplishment represents a significant milestone towards completing the port of OpenVMS to the Intel® Itanium® architecture. HP expects that the port will be available to early developers in June and a full production version for general availability to HP OpenVMS customers will be available in the first half of 2004.

An estimated 400,000 servers run OpenVMS, which just celebrated twenty-five years of engineering excellence. When the port to the Intel Itanium architecture is completed, OpenVMS customers will have a choice of staying with the AlphaServer platform or moving to the industry-standard Itanium® platform. HP is working closely with industry-leading software vendors like Oracle, BEA, BMC Software and Computer Associates to fully port OpenVMS environments and application portfolios to Itanium-based enterprise systems. The vast majority of HP OpenVMS ISV partners already have plans to port their applications to OpenVMS on the Itanium® architecture.
