VASFULL, virtual address space is full?

» close window

The Question is:

After upgrading from VMS version 6.2 to 7.1 an application crashes with the
message "%SYSTEM-F-VASFULL, virtual address spase is full". What does this
mean and what actions can be taken (in general) to make the application work
with V7.1.

The Answer is :

HELP/MESSAGE is available to try to assist with the determination of
the cause of, and how to recover from, an error.

VASFULL is generally a result of insufficient virtual address space
(as determined by the VIRTUALPAGECNT parameter), though it can also
be associated with problems saving the vector processing state on
those VAX systems with vector processor hardware. Also check the
PGFLQUOTA setting, as this user quota can also act as a limit on the
total size of virtual address space accessible to the application.

And as is usual, seeing a VASFULL error or any other error message can
also be bogus, as an application can crash with most any error status.
