what is a logical port?

» close window

The Question is:

Hello

Can any one tell me what a "logical port" in VMS is please.
I am investigating a problem with a Dibol application and the
application tech support people told me that they assign a
logical port to the real physical port a terminal connects to
via a system service call. Unfortunately that is all they know.

I can not find any reference to a system service that creates
logical ports nor do I know the term with regards to VMS.

Can you shed any light on this please or point to the documentation.
The system is a MV3100 with VMS 5.4.

The Answer is :

There is no such thing as a "logical port" on OpenVMS. This may be
a corruption of the "logical name" term, or it may well be confusion.
