The Question is:

I am trying to get interactive telnet session established between my PC and
my VAX workstation using the X-Win32 utility. I can send commands to the VAX
but I can't get an open session established. Is there a command that I can
send from my PC that will establish a interactive telnet session?

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard is not familiar with the (non-OpenVMS) X-Win32 utility.
There are various X Windows packages for Windows NT systems available,
  including the eXcursion package.

OpenVMS supports various IP packages, including the TCP/IP Services for
OpenVMS (UCX) package. The telnet protocol works with all UCX versions
that the Wizard is familiar with.

The Wizard does recommend bringing your existing software to more recent
versions, V7.1 is the current OpenVMS VAX version. (You do not mention
which IP package nor which version is in use, so the Wizard can only
assume that the package is of a similar vintage as V5.5-2 -- rather old,
in other words. Also look at the DECwindows version -- V1.2-4, with the
ECO kit, is the current DECwindows release.)

After having upgraded the OpenVMS products, you will want to contact the
folks that support the X-Win32 package for the latest version. If the
problem persists after the software upgrades, please contact the X-Win32
support folks -- they will then need to work with the Compaq customer
support center folks to resolve this problem.
