Possible to move to IP network transport?

» close window

The Question is:

Hi.
I have a routed network with mixed DECnet, (LAT), TCP/IP protocols.
But...
I would like to use TCP/IP as the only protocol, is it possible to use NFS,
LPR and TELNET to fix this???
The users today uses: Printing(LAT) Filetransfer(DECnet) Remotelogon(LAT).

Best regards /Magnus

The Answer is :

It can be possible to switch from LAT and DECnet protocols over to
IP-based protocols -- depending on which features of the particular
protocols are in use. (Various features provided by DECnet -- such
as transparent remote file access via FAL -- and by LAT are not
available using their equivilent IP protocols. Without knowing what
specific features you are using and without knowing your threshold of
pain, it is impossible to say if you can switch over.)

Note that DECnet-Plus can operate over an IP transport.
