STABACKIT on TLZ-series tape?

» close window

The Question is:

I have a microvax 3100 with a dss 90m tape drive (sevice tyoe 28?) stand
alone backup will not create a tape on this unit, error shows as--

%init-f-illopt, qualifiers not appropriate to this device

The Answer is :

If this is a stanalone BACKUP command -- unlikely, given the particular
error message -- then please check the documentation of BACKUP, and
  specify the correct command.

If this is an error from STABACKIT, then the procedure will need to be
modified to recognize this device as a supported one -- copy the existing
procedure into a site-specific version, and edit the procedure to parallel
the support for another TLZ-series tape drive using the device code for
your existing TLZ-series drive and paralleling the support in the command
procedure for another TLZ-series drive. (Do not modify the system copy
of STABACKIT, copy it to your own local STABACKIT_TLZ09.COM file before
  making any edits.)

If you have access to the OpenVMS VAX V7.1 release, you can also look at
STABACKIT from that release. (OpenVMS VAX V7.1 is the first release with
STABACKIT support for various recent DDS (DAT) drives, such as the TLZ09.)

The Wizard would strongly recommend getting a CD-ROM drive, and using
that for BACKUP operations. If you have storage on an existing disk
drive, you can use STABACKIT to create a bootable root on that disk.
(You can add a standalobe BACKUP root to a system or non-system disk,
and without disturbing any other files on the target disk.)
