tuning PID process control loops?

» close window

The Question is:

I am looking for a software package to provide "auto tuning" of PID process
control loops. Does Digital or your partners have such an offering?
Thanks. Paul

The Answer is :

Terse questions beget terse (and often wrong) answers.

What might a "PID Process Control Loop" be, and how does one tune (much
less auto-tune) one? (The Wizard is unfamiliar with the use of these
particular terms and phrases within the context of the OpenVMS operating
  system.)

There are scheduling packages and interfaces available, start with the
example class scheduler provided in sys$examples:class.c. This may or
may not be related to the question posed -- but does help tune the
amount of system available for processes, and Process Identification
(PID) values are regularly used in this area.

Tuning of application performance and loops on a per-process (PID) can
be achieved using tools such as the Performance and Coverage Analyzer
(PCA) that is included in the DECset package.

If this is a question of Proportional Integral Derivitives (PID) and
intelligent factory floor controllers or programmable logic controllers
(PLCs), then you will want to look for vendors that deal with factory
floor operations and the associated PLC support.

The medical field also has an acronym PID, which the Wizard will not
discuss further here. (The Wizard does not want to even consider a
control loop in this particular context.)

The OpenVMS Wizard is not in a position to recommend specific vendors
in any of these area -- if the Wizard has guessed correctly as to any
of the particular areas discussed here -- please check for vendors at
  the following website:
