TCP/IP (UCX) printing, reverse-telnet to LaserJets

» close window

The Question is:

OpenVMS Version: any supporting UCX V3.3 and
later... (Choice is not provided in
wizard_form.html).

Re: Connect VAX using UCX to LaserJet

In your response to this query, you cite
port 9001 as the target for reverse-TELNET to
HP JetDirect cards.

The correct port number is 9100. This is not
documented anywhere that I can find, although
HP is usually forthcoming with this info. when
queried by telephone (tech. support).

In response to another query, the statement was
made that UCX$LPDSYM does not handle the /PAGE
qualifier of the OpenVMS PRINT command.

It should also be noted that as late as
UCX V4.0A, UCX$TELNETSYM does not obey this
qualifier (/PAGE), or /FLAG or /BURST. I have no
hands-on experience with later versions of UCX.

Third-party TCP/IP product symbionts are
generally more faithful to the PRTSYM/LATSYM
behaviors. Multinet is recommendable, with
TCPware as a second choice.
