Storage media (tape and optical) lifetime?

» close window

The Question is:

On a typical tape, like the TLZ07-CA, how many backup would
be reasonable before I should replace the tape? How long
is the 'lifetime' of a Digital tape, how many full backup
cycles?

Our tape drive is the TLZ9L-DB.

Thanks

The Answer is :

The DAT media is rated for 2000 passes of the tape past the tape drive
head(s), which is rather less than 2000 backup operations. This rating
includes the 60M, 90M, and 120M DAT cassettes.

Please see the "Flexible/Optical Media Specifications Chart" included
in the Systems and Options Catalog for additional information on this
and other media lifetime ratings, as well as coecivity, thermal, and
  shelf life ratings.
