PATHWORKS and Windows NT authentication?

» close window

The Question is:

We have two vms systems running pathworks 4.2 and
5 which are being used for file/print services. We
also have several nt 4.0 machines pdc and bdc's
for the domain. The problem is, if a user is
authenticated on the nt box and wants to access,
map a drive, to the pathworks 4.2 box this can only
be done if the pathworks service (share) has no
protection and doesn't need password to gain access.
I the pathworks share is password protected access
can only be gained by setting up an account on the
vms box which has the same name as the share, then
mapping the drive using the nt workstation and
entering the username and password for the account
with the same name. We have tried synchronizing
the usernames and passwords on both the nt and vms
boxes and have added a registry entry for allowing
plain text passwords. Still can not map drives
to the vms machine using nt for password protected
shares. Please forward any info to my email address
at laudadl@adsb.on.ca.
Thanks Laurie

The Answer is :

Since PATHWORKS V4.2 predates Windows NT domains by a significant interval,
it is not particularly surprising that the version does not interoperate
with Windows NT authentication. Further, V4.2 is unsupported as of a few
years ago. The latest versions of PATHWORKS are V6.0A, and PATHWORKS 32
V7.1A started shipping in October 1998.

PATHWORKS versions from V5.0 forward about and will work within a Windows
  NT domain.

In conjunction with OpenVMS V7.1 and later and recent PATHWORKS software,
OpenVMS can also participate in the Windows NT domain, with a common set
of passwords shared across an OpenVMS login and across a Windows NT domain.

The Wizard recommends you upgrade all your PATHWORKS server systems to at
  least V5.0.
