Common or cross compiler?

The Question is:

 
Is their a commmon compiler or a way in which we can update a switch to
cross compile on both Open VMS / VAX machine & Open VMS / Alpha machine.
Please reply ASAP as its critical to my current assignment.
 
 

The Answer is :

 
  Terse questions beget terse -- and often incorrect -- answers.  If you
  have an urgent need for an answer, please contact the customer support
  center directly -- most every question the Wizard receives is answered
  ASAP, for specific definitions of ASAP.
 
  There is nowhere near enough information to answer this question.
 
  The Macro32 assembler is available on OpenVMS VAX, and the Macro32
  compiler is available on OpenVMS.  These compilers can be used to
  generate object code from common source.  Compilers such as DEC C
  can also be used to generate object code from common source.
 
  The Wizard is unaware of generally-available cross-compilers for
  OpenVMS VAX systems targeting OpenVMS Alpha, or OpenVMS Alpha systems
  targeting OpenVMS VAX.
 
  The particular goal here is unclear -- what problem are you trying to
