AlphaServer 800 minimum OpenVMS version?

» close window

The Question is:

Can OpenVMS 6.2 be run on an Blue box Alphaserver 800, if so which release
do I need.

The Answer is :

AlphaServer 800 have an integrated UltraSCSI controller and thus require
OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-1H1 or later, or can operate on OpenVMS Alpha V6.2-1H3
with the addition of an UltraSCSI ECO kit -- ALPSCSI*.

Note that the AlphaServer 800 systems cannot boot off a standard OpenVMS
Alpha V6.2-1H3 distribution, as this release does not include the necessary
UltraSCSI ECO kit -- alternate mechanisms for standalone operations -- such
as using a V7.1-1H1 or later OpenVMS Alpha kit or using another system
sharing the same system disk -- for the initial bootstrap (prior to the
application of the necessary kit), upgrades (to any releases prior to
V7.1-1H1, which is the first release with UltraSCSI sypport) and for
system disk restoration in the event of a failure must be made.
