Adjusting VIOC size?

» close window

The Question is:

When configuring an AlphaServer 8400 with 8GB of physical memory, we were
unable to increase the value of VCC_MAXSIZE beyond 2048000 - values above
this were accepted but were reset to 0 at boot time. Does this mean that a
maximum of 1GB of memory can be
allocated to the VIOC, or are there patches available to allow it to be
increased?

Also, a colleague has encountered a problem on an AlphaServer 4100 running
6.2-1H3 whereby any attempt to increase the VIOC above 256MB produces an
error at boot time regarding "insufficient system page table space".

Many thanks

Alan

The Answer is :

VIOC is presently limited to a maximum size of one gigabyte.

The Wizard will assume that the increase in VIOC on the AlphaServer
4100 series was accomplished using AUTOGEN and the MODPARAMS file,
and the parameter values were not input directly into the system via
SYSGEN commands. If so, please contact the customer support center.
