Binary data on serial LAT line? (ENQ, SOH)

» close window

The Question is:

I am setting up a serial link to a gauge. I am using a LAT port on a
DECserver 200. When I attempt to transmit an ASCII ENQ character to open
communications, there appears to be an ASCII SOH character appended to it.
If I examine the LAT counters for t
he LAT port I do indeed see two characters sent for every 1 ENQ. I have
attempted various and many terminal and LAT port settings. Any
suggestions???

The Answer is :

Operating with raw binary data over a serial line is difficult at best,
as OpenVMS serial lines use in-band flow control, which tends to conflict
with the propogation of the binary data.

Please contact the customer support center, as an example of the failing
application program will be needed, as well as information on the settings
  of the LAT terminal line.
