OpenVMS version for Personal Workstation?

» close window

The Question is:

I am trying to install OpenVMS V6.2-1H3 on a DPW 433au. I have modified the
env vars (os_type = OpenVMS, auto_action HALT etc.). The "show dev" command
shows the CD Drive as DQB0. So, I used
>>>b dqb0
command to boot VMS from the CD.

After a few "initializing" steps, the system halts with halt code = 5, halt
instruction executed and PC = 20010148 messages.

What am I doing wrong?

The Answer is :

The minimum supported OpenVMS version for all Personal Workstation
systems (-au series) is OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-1H1, with V7.1-2 or V7.2
prefered. To bootstrap these systems under OpenVMS will require an
OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-1H1 or later distribution kit.

IDE CD-ROM support on V7.1-1H1 and V7.1-1H2 requires an add-on kit
that can be downloaded, please see the existing discussion(s) of IDE
CD-ROM support here in Ask The Wizard. (This IDE CD-ROM kit is not
required with V7.1-2, nor with V7.2 or later.)

The Wizard will assume that the CD-ROM drive is capable of and is
configured for 512 byte sector operations.
