DECwindows server VASFULL?

» close window

The Question is:

What files do I need to modify in order to get the second heads to work?
I have a Digital AlphaStation 250 4/266 running OpenVMS 6.2 with ZLXp-Ex PCI
Graphics cards. Recently I got another ZLXp-Ex PCI Graphics cards and when
I put the card in and reboot, the DECWindow motif failed to start.

I got these messages in DECW$SERVER_0_ERROR.LOG file:
ffbvmsScreenInit: Init FFB screen number 0
Screen 0 sfb+/TGA revision # 4 32 bits/pixel 8330688 bytes VRAM
Shareable Image DDX GY, InitOutput loaded at 0051E000
ffbInitProc: ForceDepth screen 1 to 8

ffbvmsScreenInit: Init FFB screen number 1
AlphaPremapRange: Could not premap the frame buffer VA, status 580
%SYSTEM-F-VASFULL, virtual address space is full

Unrecoverable server internal error (error code = 580) found, terminating
all con
nections.

The Answer is :

With correctly configured (and similar) graphics cards, nothing generally
need be done to bring the second controller on-line -- DECwindows will
detect and will start the second controller transparently.

Given the VASFULL error, an AUTOGEN SAVPARAMS REBOOT FEEDBACK and a check
of the SYSGEN parameter VIRTUALPAGECNT and the process PGFLQUOTA would
also seem in order. In this case, insufficient VIRTUALPAGECNT would be
the most likely culprit. (When increasing VIRTUALPAGECNT, use AUTOGEN
and MODPARAMS.DAT; use the aforementioned AUTOGEN command.)
