SCSI Hardware questions?

» close window

The Question is:

This is more of a hardware related question. I have multiple versions of
OpenVMS(6.2-1H3, 7.1-1H2, 7.1-2) with different Scsi disks.
With the new different scsi configurations what are the maximum distances
for the different scsi busses?
I know that SCSI slow was 4M ans SCSI Fast was 3. What about Ultrascsi,
fast wide scsi, etc.

The Answer is :

Information on the maximum permitted length of a SCSI bus is inherently
rather dangerous information, as a shorter SCSI bus is always a better
choice over a longer SCSI bus.

The permitted length of the SCSI bus is not dependent on the OpenVMS
  version.

For specific information on the maximum SCSI bus length supported,
check the particular SCSI controller documentation or (for integrated
SCSI controllers) the system documentation, or contact the customer
  support center for assistance.

The maximum UltraSCSI domain is 74 meters. There exists at least a
page of rules, and of conversions of SCSI widgets into meters.

The maximum SCSI bus (using DWZZA/DWZZB) is 53 meters. Like the
UltraSCSI requirements, there exists at least a page of rules, and
of conversions of SCSI widgets into meters.
