Third-party SCSI device integration?

» close window

The Question is:

Hello Mr. Wizard,

We're running OpenVMS 5.5-2 with a FAST SCSI-2
Seagate disk (ST15150N). Recently, we bought
few more identical disks (ST15150N), everytime
the new drive is mounted, we got an error message
%MOUNT-F-DRVERR, fatal drive error. We called
the manufacturer, they said that Seagate had
changed the Micro Code, the old one had been
obsoleted. We have no problem of mounting the new
disk on OpenVMS 6.1, but due to some of our
hardware incompatible, we must use OpenVMS 5.5-2.
We've found and downloaded the software patches
from your FTP site and reinstalled the DKDRIVER,
based on the README file, this drive should be a
new drive for VMS 5.5-2 to VMS 6.1, but it still
did not work. Can you please tell me where we
can get another SCSI drive to solve this problem?

Thank you for your help.

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard is not in a position to assist with the
integration and testing of third-party drives -- you will
want to pursue this question with your reseller or with the
  device manufacturer.

Please see the existing SCSI device integration discussions
here in Ask The Wizard for some of the various considerations
  involved with SCSI widgets.
