AlphaServer 4100 hardware? (processor upgrade)

» close window

The Question is:

I am trying to add a 4th CPU to my Alpha 4100.
As soon as I install the 4th CPU board,
the system does not work... I get power failure
messages on all CPUs and power supplies.
I currently have 3 power supplies and 3 CPUs
and 2 gigs of memory installed on the 4100.
This configuration works fine.
Do you know what has to be done to get the 4100
to support 4 CPU's or can it support 4 Cpus?

The Answer is :

The AlphaServer 4100 series supports up to four processors.

All AlphaServer 4100 procesors should be of the same performance; do
not mix MHz together, and do not mix cached and uncached processors
together. The processors should be installed in sequential slot number
order starting in slot zero. One power supply should be sufficient for
up to two processors. A second power supply is required for three- and
  four-processor configurations.

Please contact your local hardware support organization for assistance
  with resolving this hardware problem.
