Switching from Windows NT to OpenVMS?

» close window

The Question is:

Hello,

The aim was to install VMS 7.2 on an Alpha
Server 1000 4/200.

- It was running Windows NT

- I switched the boot to VMS

- I did a firmware update because the Pal code
was too low so:
>I booted the Firmware Update CD V5.3
>At the prompt, I did the "update" command
>the CD asked for an ARC and SRM update, I
answered YES for the both
>After the update completed, I did the "exit"
command

Went for Lunch...

When I came back, the screen was off
I tried to halt the server, there was no error
message on the console terminal and it seems to
boot OK but I have nothing on the screen,
the yellow light does not turn to green
It was working perfectly well before lunch, I
tried to change the screen, the keyboard, still
nothing.

Maybe, there's something special with the
Firmware Update version or with the video card
after an firmware upgrade.
If not are there some hardware support floppy I
could boot from?
Is there something you can do to help me?

Thank you in advance

Nathalie

The Answer is :

Once the appropriate firmware is installed, you will be able to boot
OpenVMS from the CD-ROM. There is no hardware support floppy required
for OpenVMS V7.2 on the AlphaServer 1000 series, all necessary support
  is integrated.

You will need to verify the version of the firmware installed, you
will need to power cycle the system after the firmware installation,
and you will want to determine the specific hardware configuration
of the system -- in particular, check that the graphics controller
and the CD-ROM drive are supported by OpenVMS.

You will want to contact your local hardware service organization
  for further assistance with this.
