The Question is: Can you use the UCX$TELNET print symbiont to print to a Digital 500 print server? If so what port number should be used the /ON="host:port" qualifer? (The documentation seems to indicate you can only use LPR.) The Answer is : The OpenVMS Wizard is not immediately familiar with any "Digital 500 Print Server" printer. The Wizard would recommend reading the documentation for information on the particular device -- PrintServer printers and Postscript printers in general usually use DCPS for all access, and DCPS V1.4 and later support IP access. Various printers may or may not have a network interface (NIC) present. If this device is the RapidPrint 500 device, use port 2001. Information on DIGITAL-branded printers, printer device drivers, printer documentation, and similar can be obtained from: http://www.digital.com/printers/ Per the RapidPrint documentation, "If custom queuing software has been designed on a host, raw TCP/IP socket or telnet connections can be made directly to the RapidPrint 500 parallel port. Opening a TCP session to port 3001 will form a direct connection to the parallel port on the RapidPrint 500. If Telnet IAC interpretation is needed, form a connection to port 2001. If port is in use, the connection will be refused."
