Dissolving Bound Volume Sets?

» close window

The Question is:

I want to split a bount multi-volume disk set.
I can re-initialize all of the disks, except for the master disk. When
trying to initialize this disk; or even mounting the disk foreign, I get the
message : Device already allocated to another user. How do I de-allocate
this (I have tried DEALLOCALE), o
r reinitialize this disk.
Please can you give me any hints.

Thanks for your time.

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard would expect this sequence to operate.

When posting questions, please include the full text of the error(s)
received, and the particular command(s) used. Information on the
local environment -- the devices involved, clustering, etc. -- can
  also be quite useful.

Enable full privileges: BYPASS, OPER, and VOLPRO typically being the
most interesting of privileges for these particular situations.

Ensure that all nodes in the cluster have dismounted this disk, using
  SHOW DEVICE/FULL.

Ensure that all processes in the cluster are not accessing the disk,
using SYSMAN to invoke SHOW DEVICE/FILES on each node.

Once there are no accessors and the disk is completely dismounted from
all nodes, use INITIALIZE/ERASE to ensure that the entire contents of
  the device are overwritten.

If this sequence fails, please contact the Compaq Customer Support
  Center directly.
