DECwindows not starting?

The Question is:

 
Hi,
 
We have AlphaServer-1000A and 2100A, both in the
RM (rackmount) variant. We use PCM (Polycenter
Console Manager, pre-CA of course). We want to
be able to monitor OVMS's OPA0: via PCM while
still using DECwindows on the graphics adapter
on these systems.
 
However, when we
 
>>>set console serial
 
...then start up OVMS, we get OPA0: on "COM1",
but no DECwindows on the graphics adapter.
 
Any ideas? The Owner's Guides don't cover this,
as you might expect, and I didn't find anything
on this either here or in the FAQ.

The Answer is :

 
  DECwindows is not tied to the console terminal setting.
 
  Acquire and apply the DECwindows ECO kit associated with the
  particular version of DECwindows in use -- there are ECO kits
  for both V1.2-3 and V1.2-4 available.
 
  Ensure that the WINDOW_SYSTEM parameter is set non-zero.
 
  Check for any errors in the system startup.
