Remote command execution on OpenVMS? (rexec, rsh)

» close window

The Question is:

How to execute a vms command via ftp ( ucx )

We have two alphas, one using multinet for tcp services
The other is using ucx. On the multinet machine
I can connect via ftp from a pc and submit a job
by using the SITE SPAWN command. I have not been
able to find a ucx equivalent. How does one execute a vms
command when connected via ftp ( ucx ). Is there
something which needs to be enabled? Using remotehelp,
the SITE command exist but does not seem to be the same
as the multinet SITE SPAWN command or the unix
equivalent SITE EXECUTE command.

The Answer is :

  SITE SPAWN is apparently a MultiNet extension to the FTP Server;
  it uses a site-specific extension within the FTP protocol.

  The usual approaches with OpenVMS and TCP/IP Services -- or with
  other FTP servers lacking this particular extension -- include the
  use of the rexec and rsh tools.
