Setting up an OpenVMS Cluster?

» close window

The Question is:

I want to create a cluster envir. using two
dec 3000/700 system, which is the best way
to accomplish this task (ethernet or scsi).
also I these to systems to share a ba356
disk shelf with rz28 disk drives.

The Answer is :

These systems can be configured in an OpenVMS Cluster via Ethernet,
or via other broadcast communications such as FDDI.

You will then need to determine if the current SCSI controllers are
supported for multi-host SCSI operations. If so, then multi-host
SCSI connection can be made, in addition to the Ethernet connection.

Tape and similar SCSI devices are not permitted on multi-host SCSI
configurations -- devices must be tolerant of (and "re-entrant" upon)
any SCSI bus resets that might occur.

The OpenVMS Wizard would strongly recommend reading through the basic
configuration and setup material in the clustering documentation. Also
read and heed the discussion of votes in the OpenVMS Frequently Asked
Questions (FAQ), as severe disk corruptions can otherwise occur.
