Accessing BACKUP savesets with same file name?

» close window

The Question is:

Hi,
and urgent...
I have a tape with two standalone backup images with the same save-set name
on it. How can I restore the second image booting in standalone mode? What
is the exact syntax like "back/image/log mka500:..... dka300:"

The Answer is :

By definition -- please see the Ask The Wizard rules for details -- all
questions asked here are not considered urgent. Urgent questions should
be routed directly to the Compaq Customer Support Center.

You will want to advance the tape to the correct point. The following
shows an example of how to do this:

	$$$ BACKUP MKA500:/SAVE/LIST/REWIND
	$$$ BACKUP MKA500:/SAVE DKA300:/IMAGE

The first command, when completed, will cause the tape to be located
at the beginning of the second saveset on the tape.

Often the easiest way to do perform this or other similar operations
is to boot OpenVMS off another device, MOUNT the tape /FOREIGN, and
perform a similar series of commands, or use SET MAGTAPE commands to
skip over the intermediate files located on the tape.
