Replacing LAT with telnet print queues?

» close window

The Question is:

Hi,
I need to set up IP print queues (VMS 7.1-2 Alpha cluster) to print with
various terminal characteristics. With LAT, I set the LTA terminal
characteristics /NOFORM/NOTAB/NOLOWER. I cannot see anyway of doing this
using TELNETSYM.
The resaons for these requirements are:
1. I have FUJITSU Line Printers that do not have a lowercase band, hence
using TELNETSM any lowercase chars in the printfile just come out as spaces.
The printers do not support escape sequences, ie I am unable to use setup
modules.
2. I need to print to pre-printed stationary of varying page lengths, hence
the /NOFORM on LAT converts a FormFeed within the printfile to n LF's and
all works fine. - Using TELNETSYM the FF character is sent direct to the
printer and the printer then for
mfeeds to its hardware setting (66lines). Various combinations of setting
the UCX$TELNETSYM_SUPPRESS_FORMFEEDS only accomplish the removal of FF's or
their replacement with single LT's.

I have an urgent need to move away from LAT as the printers in qestion are
at remote sites that we wish to bring on-line via ISDN. As LAT is a bridged
protocol, I cannot use LAT queues over it as the line would be permanently
up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,
