Identifying device name of a serial line?

» close window

The Question is:

On an Alpha 3000-400 there is an RS-232 synchronous/asynchronous port. This
port should provide serial printer capability.

My question is: What is the driver called
for this port when invoking the SHOW DEV
command?

Thanks.

The Answer is :

Depending on attributes ranging from the OpenVMS version to the alternate
console settings to the particular system type -- the serial ports are
typically either a TT or an OP device, usually either TTA1: or OPA0:.

Far and away the easiest and most general approach to resolving this
particular question is to simply plug a serial terminal into the serial
line in question, log into the system, and look at the device name of
  the local terminal.
