Determining product release date?

The Question is:

 
Can you please tell me how I can find the
first release date for a product if I know the
product and version number. For example:
 
DIGITAL SNA APPC/LU6.2 Programming Interface for OpenVMS
V2.2.
 
I know the current version but I need to know the
date this version was first released.

  This information is generally only available via the Compaq Customer
  Support Center.
