PPP on console (OPA) terminal?

» close window

The Question is:

ppp on opa4: (jensen)

$ mcr sysman io conn ppp0: /driver=sys$pppdriver/noadapter
$ pppd
PPPD> conn opa4
%PPPD-I-CONNECTTERM, converting connection on device _OPA4: to a
Point-to-Point
connection
%PPPD-E-TERMUNSUPP, point-to-point connections on _OPA4: are not supported

I use a dec2000 model 300, and have a modem
connected to the opa4: serial port.
The modem is accessible via e.g. Kermit and works
however I don't know how to get it to run with
pppd.

I guess I should get somehow a virtual terminal
on that port that can be reconnected ??

TIA
HAik

The Answer is :

  OP devices use the operator terminal device driver OPDRIVER, while
  PPP requires the use of the TTDRIVER terminal class driver.

  Short of any device name changes that might occur when switching
  from a graphics to a serial console on certain Alpha systems, there
  is no supported way to alter the device driver chosen for use with
  the COM-class serial lines.
