Monitoring system uptime?

» close window

The Question is:

Wanted: a tool running on Windows NT who collects availability datas and
presents them in charts.
Our costumers want a grafik about the availability of every server, so this
tool must collect over months and years.
Additional we need this collectors for NT, VMS and UNIX Server.
The NT-Console collecting all the datas from all type of Server should stand
at the helpdesk showing the availability of every single server.

I think viewpoint is the right tool for this.
But I dont need all the performance analysis and I believe viewpoint is a
little bit
overkill. I only have to document the availability of the servers.

In the NT-Collectors I would select only the UPTIME-class and maybe CPU
Utilization and
Memory available.

Question: Is there another tool, smaller and cheaper than viewpoint ?

The Answer is :

A set of simple DCL CGI scripts could collect the uptime data and
display it via a web server. An experienced DCL programmer could
create the necessary scripts and RMS data files in a day or two.

You may also want to check with DECUS, as tools to monitor system
uptime would be good candidates for inclusion in the various DECUS
  libraries.

The AltaVista, DejaNews and DECUS sites may also be able to find
uptime-related packages -- there are a number of packages returned
on a search for "uptime" in the DECUS libraries. (www.decus.org)
