Adding Ethernet Controller?

» close window

The Question is:

we have one VAX 4000/100 running VMS 5.5-2 and
one VAX 4000/100A running VMS 6.2. each system has one built-in ethernet
port on the motherboard and external DSSI-SCSI bus disks shelves.

my question is:

what will be required to add the second ethernet cards to each system so
that each system can use one ethernet connection for
TCP/IP protocols and the second one for DECnet
protocol?

best regards,

joseph

The Answer is :

OpenVMS permits IP and DECnet to operate over a shared controller.

Both IP and DECnet traffic are permitted over the same Ethernet LAN.

To add an Ethernet controller to the VAX 4000 model 100 series systems,
the installation of an external Q-bus expansion enclosure and an Ethernet
controller such as the DELQA or DESVA would be required.

If this question is one of partitioning DECnet and IP traffic, consider
using a bridge or brouter to connect the Ethernet segments, setting up
the appropriate filtering. Alternatively, consider an upgrade to
DECnet-Plus (DECnet/OSI), which permits DECnet to operate over IP.
