OpenVMS hang during upgrade device configuration?

» close window

The Question is:

Hello,

I just received the VMS V7.2 AXP kits, and I'm trying to install on an
Alphastation 255.

I've upgraded the Firmware to the V7.0 release from the web page, Mar 99, so
I believe that the SRM is OK for VMS V7.2

The problem is when I boot the first VMS V7.2 CD (>>>boot dka400) it comes
up to to the point where it says "Configuring Devices" and then just hangs.

This system has a SCSI storage works box, and I boot VMS V6.2 normally
without problems. I'm not concerned with an UPGRADE. I just want to load
V7.2 on one of the extra disks I have on this system.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Bruce

The Answer is :

This tends to point to a SCSI bus or hardware problem, to an odd widget
in the SCSI bus configuration, to an incorrect SCSI unit identification
settung, to an incorrect or overlong or incorrectly terminated SCSI bus,
or to a device is slow to handle resets. Various other problems are also
  obviously possible.

Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center for assistance. Please
expect that specific details of the system hardware configuration, and
any recent changes, will be required.
