Corrupted CMS library?

» close window

The Question is:

We have upgraded from VMS 5.5-2 to VMS 7.1 and CMS from 3.4 to 4.0. We
"converted" a library following your FAQ num 1837, the library is apparently
OK but when I try to fetch a file I get
%CMS-F-BADLIB, There is something wrong with your library
-CMS-F-ILLCONREC, Illegal control record in element file.

The history is also rubbish and produces the following errors
%CMS-W-HISNOTSTM, History file record format is not stream_lf
and further down ..
%CMS-F-BUG, There is something wrong with CMS or something it calls
-CMS-F-INVHISREC, Invalid his <complete garbage>

The Answer is :

ILLCONREC errors generally point to an element that has been corrupted.

Please contact Compaq Customer Support, as resolving this problem may
require access to and examination of the contents of the CMS library.

The folks at the Customer Support Center have information that can
sometimes help repair damaged elements. Attempts to resolve this
  usually involve the [.CMSLIB...]your_corrupt_element_file.ext;*
element, trying to determine what happened to it to corrupt it and
what might possibly be done to try to clear the corruption.

If the repairs are unsuccessful, you may end up restoring BACKUP from
prior to the conversion, both to continue and to determine if there
were problems due to the upgrade or problems latent in the library
  prior to the conversion.
