OpenVMS and Y2K? Upgrading to V5.5-2?

» close window

The Question is:

I'm using Vms V5.5 & have purchased the Y2K Kit VAXY2K0n_U2055.

Is this the proper kit for V5.5?

What should I do?

Can I still upgrade to V5.5-2?

Please Help!

The Answer is :

You will need to upgrade to (at least) V5.5-2.

Please see the OpenVMS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for information
on the Y2K versions, as well as the recommended Y2K testing procedures.

In general, the OpenVMS Wizard would not particularly expect any serious
Y2K problems with OpenVMS VAX V5.5, with or without the Y2K readiness kit.
[OpenVMS Engineering demonstrated a wide variety of OpenVMS systems
running with system dates set well past 2000 at Anaheim DECUS 1997,
with no Y2K readiness problems noted and no Y2K readiness kit applied.]
There are a few Y2K issues known within V5.5-2 -- and listed within the
OpenVMS V5.5-2 Y2K readiness kit -- and rather few applications will
likely encounter these particular areas of OpenVMS.

Appropriate local Y2K readiness testing should show any catastrophic
failures, and should show the need for the Y2K readiness kit or (far more
likely) of Y2K problems that might be present in applications or layered
  products or site-specific files.

Y2K readiness testing is strongly recommended regardless of the readiness
status of any and all products installed.
