Problems configuring LPD on Windows NT?

» close window

The Question is:

Is it possible to print a postscript file
from a VAX / Alpha system through an NT Server
print queue.

I have a setup using UCX$LPRSETUP.EXE that creates
a print queue on an Alpha, stating the name of
the NT Server and the NT Printer queue name. This
operates for us with straight text files, but if
I send Postscript code to it, I get pages full of
the actual Postcript code printed, instead of the
document.

The Answer is :

The usual mechanism for printing Postscript files from OpenVMS is via
  the DCPS package.

Consider reconfiguring the OpenVMS system to print directly to the
printer, either by connecting the printer to the network (JetDirect,
RapidPrint, DECserver, or similar) or by relocating the printer to the
OpenVMS system and then printing from Windows NT to OpenVMS via LPR.

As for how to configure Windows NT LPD or the particular target printer
to auto-detect or to assume Postscript, please contact a Microsoft
Windows NT Wizard, or someone more familiar with the particular model
of printer in use. (LPR asks the LPD server to print and provides the
data to print, but it is largely up to the LPD server to determine what
  gets printed and how...)
