PATHWORKS PC clients to V6.0A, or use V4.1?

» close window

The Question is:

We are currently running Pathworks V4.1 on both the VAX and the client PCs.
The PCs are only using pathworks to get a DECNET connection to the VAX.

We are going to upgrade the server software to V5.0F1 to make it Y2K
compliant.

What I want to knoe is do we need to upgrade the client PCs to V6.0A or can
we leave them running V4.1? Running the old version does not impact the
running of our appliactions beyond 2000. I just want to know if it will work
since it is only a DECNET conn
ection.

The Answer is :

You reference PATHWORKS V4.1 in your mail message. You are correct
that you will need to update the version of the PATHWORKS VMS Server
you are using to the version that is Year 2000 ready.

If you are also using PATHWORKS for DOS/Windows V4.1, you will need to
update to the latest release - PATHWORKS for DOS/Windows V6.0a. The
PATHWORKS for DOS/Windows V4.1 product was not evaluated for Year
2000 issues, as it was released in 1992 and there have been numerous
revisions and updates to the product since that time.

The PATHWORKS for DOS/Windows V6.0a media kit will include the base
product CD and an additional CD that contains the Year 2000 update.
From the README file for the Year 2000 update that is included in
the kit, the following components are listed as being updated:
    FTP.EXE V6.0.002
    FTPW.EXE V6.0.008
    NFT.EXE V6.0.004
    NFTW.EXE V6.0.019
    RFA_DAP.DLL V6.0.006
    FAL.EXE V6.0.001
    FALW.EXE V6.0.002
    LATCP.EXE V6.0.002
    LATCP.MSG
    PRINTQ.EXE V6.0.001
    WINRCV.EXE V6.0.010
MAIL.EXE V6.0.013 and Associated Mail Files
    LMSRV.DLL V2.2.02
    LMUR.DLL V2.2.02NWUSR.DLL V2.0.024
    Associated ManageWORKS Files
     DOSDIR.DLL V2.0.018
     DOSFILE.DLL V2.0.008
     PRINTJOB.DLL V2.0.013

Several of the above items are DECnet specific applications or
utilities (for example, NFT is the DECnet Network File Transfer
    utility).

If you are using the PATHWORKS V4.1b for Windows NT product (which
supports Microsoft Windows NT V3.51), you will need to upgrade both
your operating system and PATHWORKS product. PATHWORKS V4.1b for
Windows NT was not evaluated for Year 2000 issues.

PATHWORKS 32 V7.1a supports Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT
    V4.0. PATHWORKS 32 V7.1a is Year 2000 ready.
