KZQSA Q-bus to SCSI support?

» close window

The Question is:

We are using Open VMS6.2 on MicroVAX 3800. The VAX's have a M5976 SCSI
module with a CD-ROM and Seagate STT2800N tape drive connected. The CD-ROM
is fully operational and I can see the Tape Drive (show device) but it fails
with COPY or BACKUP. Is there
a hardware compatibility list associated with Open VMS 6.2 or is there a
special patch / driver that needs installed to operate this tape drive?

Thanks

The Answer is :

The M5979 KZQSA adapter is supported only with specific CD-ROM and
SCSI tape devices, it is not a general-purpose SCSI interconnect for
Q-bus systems. (Compaq does not support Seagate drives or other
third-party widgets on the KZQSA SCSI.)

The OpenVMS Wizard would assume there is an incompatibility between
the Seagate tape drive and the KZQSA -- if you wish to pursue this,
you will need to check with the vendor, and you will need to check
areas such as the error log and the output from the SYS$ETC:SCSI_INFO
  tool.)

The general solution for SCSI on Q-bus MicroVAX systems was the
  KFQSA and a HSD05 or HSD10 series controller, or a third-party
  Q-bus to SCSI controller.
