Problems with DE425 Ethernet Controller?

» close window

The Question is:

DE425 not supported under VMS 7.1 ?

During an upgrade of an Alpha Server 1000 containing a DE425 network
interface from VMS 6.2 to VMS 7.1 the upgrade procedure crashed several
times with a fatal bugcheck leaving a corrupt system disk. After replacing
the CDRom drive and the tape I replaced
the DE425 with a PCI-network card and everything went OK.

Do you have any information that the DE425 is not longer supported? I didn't
find anything in the release notes.

Regards, Albert

The Answer is :

The DE425 is supported by OpenVMS -- it is listed in the OpenVMS Software
  Product Description (SPD).

That said, a PCI Ethernet widget is definitely prefered over an EISA
  widget.

As for the cause of the particular crashes you saw, this clearly could
involve either a hardware or a software problem, or some sort of odd
platform interaction, or something with the ECU or ECU data, but there
is not enough information here for any particular degree of certainty.

Initially, I would recommend using the ECU to examine and reconfigure
the EISA settings, and ensure that there are no conflicts.

  Center.
