DCPS Printer Form Width, Truncation? (HP)

» close window

The Question is:

We use DCPS (V. 1.7) to print over Raw TCP/IP
on various HP LaserJet printers. This works
with little problems on the HP LJ 5si and the
HP LJ 4000 printers, the only problem here is
ANSI files have only 78 columns. This ist not
adjustable with changing to other forms.
The serious problem are the HP LJ 4plus and the
LJ 5 printers, where the printer prints a
stream of hearts and so, while the queue on the
VMS mashine replies "Starting" after the
"show queue" command. If the print job is sub-
mitted directly (p.e. a ANSI file) over the
network, the thing work fine.
Thanks a lot

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard would encourage you to contact the Customer Support
  Center for assistance.

On the printer form, /TRUNCATE may be of interest, in addition to the
setting of the /WIDTH form value. Ensure that the queue is set to ANSI
(via logical) or the print job explicitly requests ANSI (via the PRINT
qualifier /PARAMETER=DATA=ANSI) or the file extension is listed as ANSI
  in DCPS$FILE_EXTENSION_DATA_TYPE.DAT.

Upon contacting the support center, you will likely be asked for the
  following information:

o SHOW ENTRY/FULL of one of the print jobs.

o The text of the setup module.

o SHOW QUEUE/FORM/FULL of the form(s) in use.

    o SHOW LOGICAL DCPS*

As for some of the various discussions of the HP LaserJet 4000 series
printers, please see following topics here in Ask The Wizard:

    1020, 1429, 1797, 2276, 2418, 2715, 2770, 2782, 3385, 3540 3540

The former topic is likely the best starting point for most questions
involving printing on these and other HP printers.
