TCP/IP LPD missing ACK on remote LPR?

» close window

The Question is:

We have UCX service LPD enabled. We are attempting to have our IBM
compatriots print from their local mainframe to a server queue on the VAX
side. The IBMers use the lpr command.
When doing so they receive the following error messages:

Did not receive an ACK for command
Host xx.x.x.xxx did not accept printer name trlab-201

The command from the IBM side is sent successfully but, for the obvious
reason of a non-Ack, are not able to print.

The queue which is being used for this test is fine, and when printing to
the queue from the VAX side, output is as expected.

What do we need to do please?

Thanks.

The Answer is :

Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center for assistance
  in troubleshooting this.

Enable debug-logging in the LPD server, and potentially TCPIPTRACE.

Consider altering the settings of SET PROTOCOL TCP /NOWINDOW_SCALE
or /NODELAY_ACK to see if either affects the LPD communications.

Expect to be asked the TCP/IP Services version -- given the OpenVMS
version, you will want to be using TCP/IP Services V5.0 or later.
Also expect to be asked for the relevent parts of the printcap file,
and for information on the specific printer and print queue in use.
