Personal Workstation -au, V7.1-2, IDE CD-ROM?

» close window

The Question is:

We have:
Alpha Personal WS 433au
CDROM IDE
OpenVms 7.1-2 in CD
We try to boot from CD but the computer seems to be in a neverending loop.
It is supposed that there is no problem with openvms 7.1-2 and CD IDE, is
there?

Thanks,
Rafa

The Answer is :

There are several potential ECO fixes that may be involved here and
  two peripheral controllers.

As a start, please acquire the available hardware ECO kit. (Though
resolving this using ECO kits is obviously somewhat problematic when
the difficulty arises with the OpenVMS installation kit.)

The Personal Workstation "-a" series is not supported by OpenVMS,
while the Personal Workstation "-au" series is supported.

OpenVMS can boot directly from a supported IDE CD-ROM only on those
DIGITAL Personal Workstation systems with the Cypress PCI Peripheral
controller (Miata/GL), and cannot boot from systems with the Intel SIO
(Miata/MX5). (Use the console command SHOW CONFIG to determine which
of these you have.) On systems with the Intel SIO, a SCSI CD-ROM drive
  is required.

If you have the Cypress controller and a supported IDE CD-ROM drive
amd you cannot bootstrap, please contact the Compaq Customer Support
Center for assistance -- this appears to be a supported configuration
  and should bootstrap.
