Form Alignment Problems with Remote Printing?

» close window

The Question is:

I was not sure if the first one went through

We have an issue where an LA400 Plus is not printing the same as LA400.
This may seem like a stupid comment, but there seems to be very little
difference between the two printers.

PROBLEM:
We are running Process Software MultiNet V4.1 Rev B, AlphaServer 4100 5/600
8MB, OpenVMS AXP V7.1-1H2

When printing to a VMS print queue, the pages of a two-part form either 1)
do not line up when using the "nofeed" qualifier -or- 2) skip forms when
using the "feed" qualifier.

We have the lines per page set on 33 in all areas. I have throughly tested
ALL areas, so this is not an issue on VMS, but possibly with the settings on
the printer itself.

PARTIAL SOLUTION:
I was able to write a small DCL driven program that added/removed lines from
our report and then had to FTP this document over to an NT Workstation (NT
4.0 SP5). Once on the NT platform, I have to manipulate the font in order
for these forms to line up a
nd print fine. The problem I have run into is I was testing on an LA400 and
our customer has an LA400 Plus. When I print these documents on the LA400,
they print fine. When the customer prints these forms on the LA400 Plus,
they start out fine, but the
n start dropping down lines, until they are misaligned.

Most of our customers have these same printers, but have them connected
directly to one of their parallel ports on the AXP. They are able to priint
fine using the Multinet Stream symbiont.

This problem has arisen due to the fact that the customer outsourced this
box to us and the printer is in another physical location. Since we are no
longer printing through VMS, and instead printing from NT...the driver for
the LA400 Plus is throwing off
the alignment for these 2-part forms.

The Answer is :

It is not clear if this is specific to the LA400 printer, or specific
to Multinet, or is something arising from the use of the Microsoft
Windows NT host -- the OpenVMS Wizard would recommend additional testing,
to try to locate the specific component that is introducing the skewing.
Try swapping the LA400 for the LA400 Plus. Try using TCP/IP Services
for OpenVMS. Contact the Multinet and Microsoft Windows NT Wizards for
  help with those products.
