DECserver configuration and MOP download?

» close window

The Question is:

I need few clarifications regarding DEC 700-8 print server.
Q1. If print server is configured by using VMS servers and connected to
Unix servers, will it work?
Why I am asking, because our DEC 700-8 servers are configured earlier with
VMS system and was in service, later the host server is changed from VMS to
UNIX system, even then it is worked properly. One fine morning complete
power supply lost to all server
s, I restored one after another, but now print server is not working. But
as such print server is accessible through VT 510 monitor and it is giving
message 953-locating host and hardware address (of the print server) is
correct in the host server. What
could be the problem and how to solve it?

Q2. In the VMS system, in which file the hardware address of the print
server (DEC 700 or DEC 90M) is loaded/configured ?

The Answer is :

That mixed operating systems are in use does not affect nor
alter the operation of the DECserver.

Please contact your hardware support organization or the Compaq
Customer Support Center -- this appears to be a problem with
the DECserver itself, or (more likely) with the configuration
  of the DECserver.

The downloading of DECserver systems is performed via a protocol
known as MOP. The MOP download is configured via NCP (with DECnet
Phase IV installed), via NCL (with DECnet-Plus installed), or via
the OpenVMS LANCP tool (with OpenVMS V6.2 and later) -- all three
provide the necessary MOP download support. The OpenVMS Wizard
generally prefers to use LANCP, as it is entirely independent of
  the particular DECnet transport chosen.

Most DECserver software installation kits will provide a DCL
command procedure that configures the DECserver via one of the
available MOP download mechanisms, usually via NCP or NCL.

The host portion of the DECserver configuration is generally
performed via the LAT$SYSTARTUP.COM command procedure. (See
  LAT$SYSTARTUP.TEMPLATE for details.)

Also please see other discussions of DECserver devices and MOP
download configurations, as well as the OpenVMS System Management
  documentation, for further details.
