Help wiring a DECserver to a Printer?

» close window

The Question is:

I would like to connect a HP 4050 LaserJet printer to my DECServer 90L+. I
would like to know if there is any special equiptment that I would need for
this, such as MMJ to DB9 serial adapters? If there is a product from Digital
that would help, I would li
ke to know of its availability and price.

Thanks

The Answer is :

This question is outside the area of the OpenVMS Wizard.

The OpenVMS Wizard is unfamiliar with the HP 4050 series laser printer,
and is particularly unfamiliar with the data connection for the printer.

The OpenVMS Wizard would expect a DB9 PC to MMJ adapter (H8571-J) and
some DECconnect cable (BC16E-**) would be required at a minimum. Since
you have the printer and DECserver hardware, the OpenVMS Wizard would
strongly encourage you to look at the serial line connectors used. There
is a discussion of the two flavors of DECconnect DB9 adapters in the
OpenVMS FAQ, of the available adapters. In this case, the OpenVMS Wizard
would expect that any DB9 serial-line connectors involved in this printer
configuration would use the PC pinout.
