Altering the System Time?

» close window

The Question is:

Dear Wizard,

I would like to set the date backwards to the beginning of this year to give
me more time to complete the transfer of needed (Unix) archive files (via
RAXCO Archive software) between an Ultrix system and the VAX. We have no
users except for myself. Will
setting date back cause any problems to the system.

The Answer is :

The Wizard is not in a position to discuss product licensing issues,
and particularly not with third-party products -- this activity may
or may not be permissible under terms of applicable product license(s).

Please see the OpenVMS Y2K Readiness documentation for the recommended
procedures for changing the system time, and for recovering from changes
to the system time. Changing the date back CAN cause (generally) minor
problems for applications and for the file system. It can also cause
major problems if set forward or backwards by sufficiently large values
while the system is "live". Again, please see the OpenVMS Y2K testing
documentation for details for the recommended procedures.
