TCP/IP lockd support?

» close window

The Question is:

We have ALPHA 1000 and ALPHA 2100 sever with OpenVms 6.2 on it with Digital
TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Alpha Version V4.1 - ECO Level 4 installed. We
want to use our ALPHA as NFS server too, so we tried WRQ NFS client.
Everything is working fine, except
file locking. When I start NFS client on NT machine I get message that there
is no locking deamon started on NFS server. Of course multiple users can
access same file at the same time. So, my question is: it is possible to
have any file locking on NFS ser
ver?

Thank you for your time

The Answer is :

This will require a TCP/IP package with support for lockd.

Control over multiple (shared) file access is a traditional
problem with NFS and with various operating system
implementations -- while OpenVMS does provide extensive
locking, the TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS package does not
presently provide the necessary lockd component that would
  be required in this environment.

The implementation of and introduction of support for lockd
within TCP/IP Services is generally viewed as something of
  interest.
