INVEXCPTN system crash?

» close window

The Question is:

Bugcheck: INVEXCPTN - Exception while above ASTDEL.
We are Open VMS 6.2 and UCX version 4.2 ECO 2.

Yesterday we crashed on the above bugcheck. Ironically the user id/process
identified was a terminal-based user who had just been moved (along with his
serial printer) to a new terminal server at a new tcp/ip address. He had
been up and running for abou
t 1 hour when this occured. The user claims the server box locked up
(Wysenet box).
We commonly move users around without incident and have never crashed like
this before. We have not changed our applications or images for MONTHS.
The only additional thing I know is that we originally had a bad network
cable in the hub and this server
did not come on-line initially due to this.

thankyou for any insight.

The Answer is :

First, acquire and install TCP/IP Services V4.2 ECO3 (or later).

It appears quite possible that the errant network box -- the Wysenet
terminal server that locked up -- could have triggered the OpenVMS
system crash. That said, it is not at all clear that the Wysenet
terminal server or the network problem actually did trigger the crash.

Without details of the crash, it is very difficult to determine what
crashed, and why. (Further, the OpenVMS Wizard is not in a position
  to analyze system crashdumps.)
