Assistance with Alpha firmware updates?

» close window

The Question is:

I am having a great deal of problems trying to update my firmware on my
DEC3000/600, so i can run OpenVMS 7.2. Is it possible to somehow put the
firmware update image that you would normally transfer to a floppy disk,
onto a CD so i can issue a command at
the console prompt to boot from the CD. Hopefully everything will then
behave as if it was booting from the floppy so i can then update the
firmware? I unfortunatley do not have a SCSI floppy drive - if such a thing
actually exists!

Does the image have to be in a certain directory on the CD, or does the
image file
have to be renamed?

Thanks for your help.

The Answer is :

Without elaboration on exactly what problem(s) you are seeing,
it is difficult to provide an answer -- the OpenVMS Wizard will
assume you have seen the information on the creation of the
floppy-based firmware kit that is available in the OpenVMS FAQ.
(If not, please take the time to review the documents referenced
  by the OpenVMS FAQ.)

As an obvious alternative, you might want to simply acquire a
copy of the firmware CD-ROM media and use that.

Though apparently unlikely in this case, MOP downloads of the
firmware are also possible, if you have a local MOP server.
