Multiple Ethernet Controllers, Missing Cables?

» close window

The Question is:

DS10, Naming Convention for Ethernetadapters on DS10:
I'm confused, I do have a Ds10 Server with one KZPCM_Adapter, which does
include one more Ethernetadapter. So I do have a total of 3
Ethernetadapters: EWA, EWB and EWC.
I did connect only one Ethnertcable to EWA (labeled on the box). Maschine
does come up and does tell me connect via EWC ???
Cluster connection runs via EWA ???.
DECNet OSI reports all thre adpaters and does yell at me for the open
lines...
SET HOST nn.nnnn does run via EWC, e.g. if i do exclude csmacd-2 from the
startup ncl, i can't connect via SET HOST.
Is there anything I did miss in the (ugly, short of readable examples)
DECnet OSI Documentation or are there special rules for this new
configuration?

The Answer is :

Either disable the unused Ethernet devices, or terminate them,
or configure and install the necessary network cabling. (With
DECnet-Plus, you can have multiple Ethernet controllers connected
  to the same segment.)

An OpenVMS Cluster -- much like DECnet-Plus -- will generally see,
configure, and attempt to use all available Ethernet controllers.

A DECnet-Plus end-node will generally pick and use one of the
available Ethernet controllers -- you will want this to be the
one that is correctly configured and cabled.
